Zalm: Restore of
visa duty is a necessity
By one of our editors
The Hague, 2 October. The visa duty for a number of East
European countries must be put in practice again. Especially the
abolishment of visa for the inhabitants of
Bulgaria and Romania
has been done in a hurry and should be restored again. In practice it
has lead to a flow of criminals and prostitutes to the Netherlands.
That is what
VVD-fraction leader G. Zalm writes in an article in this newspaper
today. The visa duty for a number of Eastern European countries has
been abolished before the spread of the EU. It is the most recent for
Bulgaria and Romania. According to Zalm there should be taken better
in account what the “coming spread of the European Union in eastern
development takes with it. (…) The abolishment of visa has been a
hasty decision. The restoration of visa for this kind of countries is
wished for.”
Abolishment of visa
for these countries is a consequence of the agreements which Schengen
countries have made which each other. It is unclear if only the
Netherlands can jump out of these agreements.
Furthermore, Zalm
argues for the creation of a “profession organization” for the putting
out (?) policy of illegal criminals and refused asylum requests.
Municipalities may not give support or provisions for this last group
anymore.
